A Word From The Head: Sister M Felicity
"Hello and welcome to St Winefride’s Roman Catholic Independent School".
Our School was founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1868. It caters for children, boys and girls,
from 3 – 11 years old, and has a long tradition of high academic standards.
The days are filled with interesting and stimulating activities led by a committed and efficient staff, and standards and curriculum are constantly under review. Pupils reaching the age of eleven plus may transfer to a secondary school within their catchment area. They are also prepared to take entrance and scholarship examinations to schools in the independent sector.
St Winefride’s has a well equipped Science Laboratory and Information Technology is facilitated by classroom computers and a computer laboratory. The school has a well stocked and attractive library which uses Micro Librarian Computer Systems.
The enthusiastic pursuit of music and drama has always been a feature of the school. St Winefride’s produces a variety of plays and musicals and also has a very good Choir and brass band.
Music lessons cover piano, brass, wind, string and percussion. Ballet is an important feature and is very popular in the Infant and lower Juniors.
A new programme of multi sport has greatly facilitated all forms of sport in the school, i.e. football, cricket, hockey, tennis and netball. Children take part in friendly matches and tournaments. Swimming is taken at the local baths. Gymnastics is also taught to a high level, and our A Team takes part in competitions.
Kindergarten caters for 3 year olds and offers a secure foundation for developing the independence and confidence of the young child and assists the transition from home to school. It has a well planned language and numeracy programme.
St Winefride’s offers after-school clubs, including
Gymnastics and Cricket in the summer
After school care is available until 5.30pm.
Children of other religious denominations are welcome and share in the religious ethos of the school, which is summed in the school motto ‘Soli Deo’. Arising from the Christian values of the school is an awareness of Third World poverty and the poor and deprived, for whom the school raises money and other necessities.
We look forward to hearing from you and taking the opportunity
to introduce you to our School."
